Traverse City Diary // Part 1

About a week ago my gf and I did a nice little road-trip getaway for the Memorial Day Weekend. It was a very spur of the moment situation - we thought we were riding off to Wisconsin, then potentially flying to Colorado but ended up gracing the road on our way to Traverse City, Michigan. Lisa had me at, "quaint little area with cute places to eat + shop and beautiful scenery" ... sold. I will say we didn't anticipate the drive would be as long as it was, but the journey to our destination was just as fun. We made a pit stop in Three Oaks, Mi. to the Journey Man Distillery where we...
fell in love with the contradictory rustic and modern feel of the place that was just perfect. We cooled down from the heat with some delicious Moscow Mule Slushies. We then went on to the distillery tour, which was free...yes...free. The co-founder went on to tell us the history of this magical venture her and her husband conjured up and their story was truly remarkable. We were able to try some of the best gin and whiskey right there and we left with a bottle of Ravenswood Rye Whiskey! If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking this place out.

After what we thought was gonna' be a 30 min pit stop turned 2.5-hours-of-pure-alcoholic-knowledge-and-bliss, we were back on the yellow brick road to our lil' getaway. And as you might have guessed, we got there way later than expected so we got to our Airbnb apartment for the weekend - but get this: IT USED TO BE AN ASYLUM/PSYCHIATRIC WARD. Yeah, it looked straight out of American Horror Story so let's stop talking about it. Anyways, we decided to unpack our stuff and head out to find some grub.

We stopped at a cute restaurant called Red Ginger in the downtown strip and indulged in some seriously savory food- everything was so full of flavor, I was obsessed!

We finished dinner pretty late so we decided to walk around the bay area and just take in the warm weather breeze and beautiful water that rippled like I've never seen before. Talking about life and being disconnected from the daily grind just felt nice -again, it was pretty magical.

We were trying to find a place to go out (like a club/bar) but everything around the area seemed to be a restaurant, so we opted to just browse around until we called it quits for the night.

Keep your eyes peeled for Part 2 coming soon!
