Flashes of My Mind

I'll be leaving to Atlanta tomorrow for the long Labor Day Weekend, so what a better way to leave than to post some of the things that go through my mind/inspire me...brought to you by Tumblr :P
Enjoy!

Controversial Pants | OOTD

Guess who's back, back, back? Back again, 'gain, 'gain - Yumi's back, back, back with an outfit of the day, day, day....okay, okay - I had my Eminem moment and now it's all gravy. All I can seem to keep posting is OOTD's. I finally decided to wear my AA harem pants (that I dubbed my "drop crotch pants") which are love/hate to some people. I'm not asking anyone to love everything I wear, and I guess that's why I post what I do - we're all different and do things differently. All I can say is that these are a favorite piece in my wardrobe (and thank you Lisa for allowing me to not have buyers remorse)! They can make you look unflattering in some places, they're super hard and awkward to style, but they are so comfortable. I dressed it down and enjoyed the awesome weather!

Style Profile: Ruth Litzenberger

When I first met her she had short hair with a blonde patch in it, braces and a heart of gold. Though some of those phsyical things might have changed, her heart remains the same and we've been best friends for over 7 years. Needless to say, we've seen each other grow in and out of styles but if there's one thing about Ruth that stays consistant in her fashion, and that is her love for color. She spices it up with patterns, textures, and of course...her out of this world jewelry (I'm not kidding - she has everything from a gnome necklace to humpty dumpty earrings - both pictured below; she also has quite the collection of sugar skull jewelry!) Eccentric doesn't begin to cover her style and way of being, but it comes pretty damn close. She's always been true to who she is and how she wants to dress - abiding by no rules and unafraid of what people may think. You can catch her walking out the house in 6 inch heels, a tutu, an embroidered top, jewlery from Peru and mint green lips. Not only does she have her unique eye for body decor, but she is an advocate of equal rights and challenges  the way you might think about certain causes - I swear, I'm always learning a thing or two from her. I've always admired her creativity and self-expression and am glad to call her more than a best friend, because she's my sister.
You can see some of her inspirations on her Tumblr page!

On Being Real

Today's post doesn't include an outfit of the day, or a new obsession of mine, or even a new song that I can't get out of my head, but instead I want to touch on something that I hold near and dear to my heart: being true to yourself. I know it may sound cheesy or like a cliche, but I am a huge advocate for doing things in life that suit you, not because you want to be like someone else or compete to be better than them. I think you're doing a great disservce to yourself if you can't learn to be happy with who you are. I do understand that we are a compilation of other people/things that we meet in our life that adds to who we are as a whole and I think that's a beautiful thing. However, I do feel that turning into a carbon copy takes away from the unique energy and dynamic personality that you can put into the world. I think when I was younger, I struggled with having my own voice and way of being because I thought that I needed to be like the rest of people who surrounded me - I was so wrong. Since then, I've grown into someone who I want(ed) to be and have learned to embrace myself with my quirky traits, eccentric thoughts, flaws and all. With that, I keep a very tight knit group of people around me and have stopped being friends with others because they have yet to learn how to be real, and being around people like that is very draining for me. Being annoyed and dissapointed by people who constantly took other's ideas and claimed them as their own/did not have an ounce of self-imagination just wasn't for me. To be honest, it's a bit disheartening because you can see the potential someone may have, but it's stunted by their negative fuel. Eliminating them has been so refreshing and I encourage you all to eliminate those who are negative in their self-being and actions. It doesn't have to be dramatic in any way. Don't let their insecurities and toxic ways stunt your growth and progression.

I made this blog in 2008 and have since changed the direction I wanted it to take and it's truly grown into a personal space of mine that reflects who I am. From the type of posts that I make, to the layouts and color schemes I've gone through, to the videos I've filmed and had the courage to put up. These are all very real pieces of me and what I like and I never thought in a million years that I would want to share this publicly for fear of criticism. But...who cares! People may love me, people may hate me - hell, I may be irrelevant but I'm having fun, living life the way I want to, and most importantly...being real (to myself, and everyone else). No one can take this away from me and no one can be me and this is the most empowering feeling in the world.

Love yourselves. Be yourselves. You'll go far and it'll be so fulfilling in the end.

Pink Pants | OOTD | VIDEO!

Okay, so now it's really starting to feel as if my posts are out of order because I have videos from OOTD's that I posted sometime last week. Editing videos is not my top priority when I come from work - all I want to do is take a shower and go to sleep. But, life is too short to not take advantage of time doing things you love, so I'm trying to make it a habit to be more consistent. Bear with me. Enjoy!

Howlin' for You | OOTD | VIDEO!

So, it may seem like a repetitive post, but my video editing schedule has been out of whack. But let's be real...my entire life schedule feels like this too. I have the video version of the outfit of the day from my last blog post. I enjoy watching fashion-y videos and in turn, love making them as well.
Enjoy and don't forget to watch in HD!

Here's my outfit of the day. Nothing more. Nothing else. Loving life and loving good music.
PS: Extremely addicted to the new song by my favorite KPop group, 2NE1. These ladies never fail me, from their music to their style. Enjoy!

My Babygirl, Mila

Some people know, others don't, but on April 1st, Lisa gave me the best birthday present ever: my kitty, Mila! I wasn't expecting it because 1) It was two days before my birthday 2) I never thought I'd get a cat! Mila - pronounced like the actress, Mila Kunis (aka - me-lah) - was the name she had since she was at the Anti-Cruelty Society in downtown Chicago and I thought she should keep her badass name...it suits her. She's been the best addition to my life and I love her like no other. It's been 4 months since I've been lucky to have this little girl with me and she'll be almost a year old. I'll always remember my sister and Lisa walking in with her to my apartment back in Champaign and the way she looked at everything with her huge eyes. She loved the roomies, Ian, Krystal and Lisa and anyone she met, even though she can be a diva. So here's my cat appreciation post, from one proud momma', & trust me, I have hundreds of photos, but I just chose some easily accessible ones at the moment. Her photoshoots should make it on here in the near future :)
PS: Happy 1st of the month!
